Two Guys Brewing

Wyoming, Michigan

I definitely have a “Breweries to Check Out” list when it comes to Grand Rapids breweries and breweries in the nearby vicinity. (Or in Michigan for that matter.) Frankly, GR is not a town I frequent too much when it comes to beverages—partly because the hours I’m there never align with brewery time, partly because I don’t care to fight the traffic.

Two Guys Brewing has been on my list of breweries to check out since first sampling one of their beers at Suds on the Shore (Ludington) back in 2023. Well, I finally made it.

Beer Selection—3.5/5

While the draft list doesn’t appear to be much with 8 beers on tap—three of which were Lukr pours, a Czech style of pour which creates a foamy head (often used with Czech Pilsners)—they surprisingly pull off a decent variety. There was a stout, an IPA, a lighter beer, a honey cream ale, and even an Oktoberfest beer. Most of the time when breweries have such a small selection they have too many variants of essentially the same beer.

I’ve seen places with ten drafts pull off far less of a selection. It felt well-represented.

Vibe—4/5

I’m not sure the story behind the beads on the ceiling, but they work. I’ve never participated in Mardi Gras but it’s the first thing I thought of when walking in. The glass in the back doesn’t hide the fact that it used to be a convenience store (or so I heard). The bar is comfy. It’s the type of place you already know you want to go back to.

Service—5/5

They were dead when I visited (I typically try going to places at less busier times so I don’t have to fight the crowd). Upon entry I was told I could sit anywhere as no other patrons were in. I opted for a bar seat (one of my favorites). The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable and told me which beer was her favorite. You can create your own flight and I chose five. (Although looking back, I should have opted to try at least one of the Lukr beers.)

Beer Quality—4/5

None of the beers were bad—none of them were even undrinkable. I’d be willing to sit down with a pint of any of the beers I tried; they were all good in their own right. My favorite happened to be the honey cream ale. Something about the smoothness of it and sheer drinkability. The Oktoberfest Marzen proved true to style and malty. The stout added a little bit more richness than expected. And the IPA hit.

The styles were more straightforward.

There was nothing crazy here. No ridiculously high abv beers or out of this world styles. (Crazy beers are something I like.) But their styles felt true to them; I can’t expect all breweries to brew beer like they’re on crack or meth.

Overall—Recommend

This brewery is definitely worth checking out. While I’m not regularly in the area, if I ever am I won’t hesitate to drop in. I’ve also heard great things about their food but was unable to try it on this visit.
