Final Gravity Brewing Company
Decatur, Michigan

When you think small town vibes, Final Gravity should come to mind. When you think slight-hole-in-the-wall, Final Gravity should also come to mind. However, when you think GOOD BEER , Final Gravity should definitely come to mind.

Beer Selection—4.5/5
Final Gravity shows you don’t need a huge draft list to satisfy in the selection area. We’ve all been to a brewery with over twenty beers and not a single beer hits how you want it to. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I’d rather have a brewery with five solid beers than one with 30 shitty ones.
They had ten drafts. One seltzer cleverly titled Purple Drank (Grape Seltzer) as well as an array of different drafts stretching from a Corn Creamer (a 4.6% Cream Ale) to an Irish Red to a couple IPAs, to a lighter stout and an Imperial Stout. Better yet: there’s a few creative kickers in here, including Mojito—a blonde base accompanied by mint, lime, and a touch of sweetness.

Vibe—4/5
There’s no hiding it: the place is small. I’d be shocked if their indoor seating compacity exceeds 30 people. But the smallness works. It may be small but it’s clever. The mug club members mugs hanging from the walls resemble bongs (don’t ask me how I know this; someone such as myself has never seen, handled, nor used one). But they’re colorful and super artistic.
It adds a bit of coziness. I went at a non-busy time, so I am aware this might change if I’d go on a weekend night and have to claw my way in for a seat.
(Note: there is also an outside area. Due to the rain, I didn’t check it out much.)

Service—4.5/5
They only had one server and she rocked and took care of everybody at the bar and at the tables. She definitely had her hands full, but did a great job, provided additional tastes aside from the flight, and all around was friendly and didn’t let our drinks get empty.

Beer Quality—4/5
This place has good beer. My favorite: the Mojito. They honestly just friggen nailed it. Sugar rim and lime (even in the flight sample). Every aspect of a mojito shines through here from the lime to the mint. (Maybe there’s no rum here, but, after all it is a beer). It’s just spot on.
But this place isn’t a one trick pony; they have a killer west coast IPA true to the style. The red IPA (not a style I see too often) was on point as well.
Out of trying 9 beverages, the only one I didn’t care for was the Irish red, but admittedly, it’s not my favorite style, and it was true to style.

Food — ??
While they have food, my fat ass already ate at Longship Brewing prior to visiting here so I didn’t get to explore their food options.
Overall—17/20
This brewery is a hard yes. In fact, I debated the lifetime membership for $275 from one visit alone but realized with it being over an hour drive away, realistically I wouldn’t make it here enough times for it to be worth it. If I lived around the area, I would definitely be a mug club member with one of the cool bong glasses.
Final Gravity goes to show you that it’s not the size of the place but the quality.
