‘Tis the season. It’s time to do some fall shit. Even though it was over 70 degrees when I visited Farmhaus Cider Co. in Hudsonville a few weeks ago—I’m making the transition from shorts to jeans now, but it really was that friggen warm in Michigan in late October. Despite the higher temps, I decided to attempt to do something autumnal: drink cider at a cidery (the word feels weird typing).
And I’m breaking new ground: reviewing a cider place! (Look at me!)
To start, I would say my pallet while tremendously superb with beer, may not be as great with cider, but I’d say I’ve been around the block and have had a decent amount of hard ciders in my day. (Wine is a different story, but we won’t get into that.)

Vibe
Farmhaus Cider Co. provides the perfect fall setup; it’s outdoors. And there are tables galore. It provided the perfect scene for drinking cider. And they had more than enough to choose from.
There were fire pits and leaves on the ground. (Could I have asked for anything more?)
It’s not only exactly what you want when you think of a cider place but it exceeds it.
Keep in mind this place is weather dependent; if it had been raining, I’m not sure what we would have done. The inside does not have much seating. Which is fine by me because I prefer to be outside, but if the weather would have sucked it may have dampened the experience a bit.

Cider Selection & Execution (Quality)
Naturally, I sampled a flight. There was a nice variety of ciders here.

Brunch and Pear Pop stood out. Regardless of the name, both of these popped. Brunch was my favorite: a cinamon maple cider coming in at 6.7%. Skinny Dip Sunset proved to be a great session “lemonade cider,” bursting with passionfruit and pineapple. (The pineapple really shone through here.)


Food: 5/5
The food truck, Kitchen 55, killed. I tried a Cubano 55—breaded pork with a touch of smoked ham, then the usual culprits followed (pickles, mustard, bread). The difference here is using the breaded pork piece instead of shredded pork; it’s a very interesting take. It could be because I’m a fan of schnitzel, but it worked. (Generally, I’m a fan of more traditional Cubanos.)
Overall: Strongly Recommend
I love the outdoors area: from the smokey firepits to big long tables, to the leaves on the ground. This is completely autumnal and makes you feel like you’re really doing fall shit. It screams #PureMichigan.
